Great weight loss apps!

So today kicks off the beginning to my weight loss - no more laziness!

After weeks of looking at pictures of girls with great bodies and flat stomachs, I kind of got tired and decided I wasn't going to "start tomorrow," but today.

I'm one of those people who needs things to keep me motivated, so I instantly went to my iPhone, because that's what I spend a lot of time on.

Here are some really great apps I found.

  1. MyDietDiary - this one has been a godsend. It basically lets you track your progress, your intake and how many calories burn through working out, be it jogging or simple house chores. You get to set a goal, and the app works out the amount of calories you're allowed to intake per day to reach your goal by the end. It changes according to how much weight you lose when you check in, and what your target date is. I scoured, and I mean scoured, the app store for similar apps for the country I live in, but this is the greatest one I found. 
  2. mydietcoach - now this is an app that lets you set a goal and give reminders to keep up with this goal. If you get the full version, which is only 0.89 euros, it gives you a panic button for when you have cravings, and it then gives you motivational quotes and things to make sure you don't actually eat whatever unhealthy thing you're craving. I think it's a really great concept. It comes with a lot of tips and even reminders like drinking water, preparing veggies, and also measuring your weight, looking at inspiration photos and tips for emotional//craving eating. It's really great. 
  3. blogilates - you may recognise the name because this app is owned by a very famous youtube health guru who goes by the same username. Her app basically covers your workouts and healthy, low fat food options. Even pancakes made out of eggs and bananas! It's great! I'm actually quite excited to try out some of her recipes, they look delicious for such low-everything foods. Plus, she has a line of sports clothes/gear, so that's an added bonus.
  4. moves - moves is an app that you can put in your pocket when you're walking, and it tracks the distance you've walked, the time and I think it also calculates the calories you lose as well. I know that iPhones have the nike app, but not everyone buys the shoes, so I think this is a good way of keeping track of your exercise. Plus, it really helps with your check-ins to apps like MyDietDiary.
  5. Cardio, Butt workout, Leg workout - these three apps are differentiated by the stickman figure as the icon. There's arm workout, abs and others, I believe (though these three are the ones I downloaded.) Basically it's an app with short workout videos targeting whichever one you download, and it gives you the times that you're supposed to do each one as well. I think it's pretty fantastic and convenient for on-the-go.
  6. Toneitup - the tone it up girls, much like blogilates, own a great youtube channel with over 300 workout and healthy recipe videos. They also have a few workout DVDs released and amazing meal plans that have worked miracles for some people (can't say I've tried them, but I've heard great things.) Now the app is basically instagram for working out. You can share pictures, get some inspiration and then set a reminder for when you work out. They also give you daily workout routines to follow and some really healthy recipes.

So this was my personal list of really great apps. Any other suggestions? Do share! 
I may start posting my own recipes and things in the near future. Hopefully I actually keep up with the diet this time!

Uniq-One Hair Treatment long-term review!

So this beauty right here is the Uniq-One "All in one hair treatment"

As you can see from the picture above, it has 10 "real" effects (I'll be the judge of that) that it is supposed to have on your hair over a period of time.

It's been several months since I've used this in conjunction with my Schwarzkopf BC Bonacure serum that I've reviewed on here, and have been switching them out with one another so my hair wouldn't get used to the effects. So what you're getting is an approximately 4 month review of continuous use.

The 10 effects are: 
  1. Repair for dry and damaged hair 
  2. Shine and frizz control 
  3. Heat protection 
  4. Silkiness and smoothness 
  5. Hair colour protection/with UVA and UVB filters 
  6. Easier brushing and ironing 
  7. Incredible detangling 
  8. Long-lasting hairstyle (can't comment, my hair's always been good in this department)
  9. Split ends prevention ~ noticed some changes, but not too many
  10. Adds body (I think this was because I dried my hair upside down...)

I have tangly hair that falls out very frequently in huge amounts, and blonde highlights on the bottom half (it was a full head thing until I decided to let them grow out just in time for the ombre effect that came around).

Therefore, my hair is only dry and damaged on the bottom half, which is where I sprayed the product (ponytail region)

I had done experiments where I wouldn't apply it on some days, so let me tell you that either this product had some amazing long-term effects or my hair was always really silky smooth and I never noticed. 

I can see with my mum's bleached hair that the colour is almost all gone, even though she also religiously uses the Uniq-One spray. With mine, I've been using this product for around 4 months with the BC bonacure as stated before, and my hair has pretty much stayed the exact same shade of blonde the whole time! 

This may have, however, also been thanks to the fact that though I've been using regular shampoo for my hair, I've been using conditioner for coloured hair (since conditioner's only supposed to go on the ponytail region), and I've been using brands like Syoss, which I swear by, and TRESemme, which I also swear by. 

I had used the shampoo and conditioner without the sprays and did notice that my hair looked a little bit dryer and a hell of a lot more tangly than when I was using Uniq-One, so I think the product did have some long-lasting effects.

Over the last couple of washes, I haven't used either hair products (only the Syoss shampoo/conditioner for coloured hair) and I can say that although my hair is a little bit more tangly than I'd like, the smoothness has remained over time. 

Although arguably this could be because I recently chopped off three inches off my hair, so... now I'm not entirely sure.

BUT when I did have the damaged blonde locks, I can say with confidence that this product worked miracles from the first go, so definitely try it out! 

And the one tip I have to anyone is stay away from straighteners. I haven't used any heat on my hair (I mean curlers and straighteners and such. Hairdryers I can't live without) and I think it's definitely brought back some health to my hair in addition to Uniq-One. So if your hair is looking lifeless, avoid heat.

All in all, I'm pretty satisfied, and I've recommended this to several friends and they've all been amazed by the results, so I'd say: "Give it a try! Definitely worth it" 

I can't really do a comparison, but I think I like the application style of BC Bonacure more, because the wide spray angle lets me get all my hair in a couple of sprays, though I think the effects of Uniq-One are better if your hair is really, really damaged.

Schwarzkopf BC Bonacure hair therapy - Moisture kick spray conditioner review!

So...where do I start?

The first thing that I need to mention is that I wasn't sent this product. My mum has a really good habit of discovering good hair softening/repairing products at the hairdresser every time she goes, and she discovered this one on one of her visits.

I actually have oily hair. I've trained it to last for a day and a half without needing a wash but it still betrays me sometimes, and with school it's really difficult to keep it normal when the stress levels are running-hands-through-hair worthy all the time.

That being said, this product may have a different effect on those who actually HAVE normal to dry hair. Now onto the condition of my hair.

At the moment I've got grown out blonde highlights throughout my hair. The hairdresser that I went to messed up the colour that I wanted and she made my hair a ridiculously light shade of blonde. I complained about it but my mum thinks hair dye poisons and ruins your hair like crazy (by the way, her hair is currently bleached as well) so she didn't let me re-dye it to my natural colour so I wouldn't have crazy roots - not that I'm bothered by roots on myself or anyone at all. 

So basically, half of my hair is a light-ish brown (espresso more than mahogany) and the bottom part has blonde highlights running through. It has obviously been bleached, yet the product seemed to work even when I didn't have my hair ruined.

From what it says on the bottle, this product is supposed to be a detangler that also infuses hair with moisture - which for me means KEEP IT OUT OF YOUR ROOTS AT ALL COSTS.

It's supposed to make the hair look really healthily moisturised, shiny, bouncy and it's also supposed to repair it, basically.

Now I can never tell if products are doing anything for my hair long term because I usually just adapt and say "Oh hair's like this. It's always been like this, right?" Telling the difference in before and afters is always a challenge for me. 

With that being said, I should also mention that I don't actually use conditioner most of the time. I just use my shampoo twice because my hair gets oily easily so I feel like the first time I'm getting the gunk out and the second time I'm deep cleaning it. The moisture kick from this product is kind of a replacement from the conditioner that I don't use. (I don't use a deep conditioner either - never have)

I spray this a few times on each side after letting my hair sit in the towel for 10-15 minutes if I have time, and then give it a minute or two to soak into my hair. I detangle my hair a little with my fingers prior to spraying it in just to help it out a little as well because I have severe issues with hair fallout.

The thing that I noticed immediately with this product is that it makes my hair really, really soft. I think when I look for hair products, that's essentially the first thing that attracts me to them - and really the only thing that I look for.

I'm not sure if I'd pick this product over another one that I can do a review on, if anyone's interested (LOL let's face it, I don't have readers but I'll do it anyway.)

Overall, I just like this product because it's a good softener. Although my hair doesn't lack moisture and is definitely not dry, so maybe I'm not one to judge! Try it out if you have the right hair type - I don't think it's pricey (not where my mum gets it, anyway).

Think before you speak - a concept that should be more widely known

You may have guessed, but something did happen to trigger this thought.

Just how tolerant are you, currently non-existent readers, of the phrase "Stop doing that, you're pissing me off".

I suppose that depending on the tone and context, the phrase could kind-of-sort-of-maybe be harmless - but is it really?

For someone who is generally very insecure or not quite okay with themselves - perhaps if this person already thinks everyone hates them and/or is uncomfortable/terrified by the idea of annoying or bothering people - it actually means a a bad way.

See it actually really, really hurts. It's especially worse when someone close to you says it - not as a joke - and then excuses it by something questionable like "I'm tired," or "It just came out."

People are under the impression that you can't control what comes out of your mouth, but you really can. It just takes time to train yourself and making exceptions doesn't help. Like "I had to say that, it was on the tip of my tongue," or "I was mad".

No, no, no.

That's not an excuse, I'm sorry. Others have had worse days than you yet they try to keep their tongue on a leash and/or just calmly and politely say "I'm in a bit of a bad mood right now, so I'll talk to you when I'm calmer". See that way, you get what you want - which is people leaving you alone - and you also still get to keep your friends and not piss anyone off.

"Tired" has never been a good enough excuse for me. It's always possible to control yourself unless you've got a serious psychological filter deficiency which I've only seen happen in "P.S. I love you" which is a movie and it's, well...not real. (Has anyone seen that movie, by the way? It's one of my favourites!)

So anyway, sorry about the rant but I felt I would get it out.

Hopefully, it'll also be a lesson to you that snarky commentary isn't necessary - there are other ways to make people laugh without making others hate you. Besides, no one likes losing friends because they were "tired."

First post!


I don't know where this blog is going to lead me. I might end up making it quite known, or I might fade away into obscurity because my laziness may reach new levels - we'll see.

Since it's called 'a little of everything', I thought I'd include - wait for it - a little of everything. From random blog posts, to funny things I may want to share, book reviews, product reviews, revision tips and such and maybe even some little tutorials or tips and tricks that may not be widely known.

I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do next. I'm probably going to buy a notebook and write down certain ideas that I could later on turn into blog posts, but it's all just a bit of a WIP (work in progress).

So maybe I should start by sharing a few facts about myself? 

My name is Marika, I am currently 17 years old and in my penultimate year of school. Well...technically I've only got exams left of year 6/12 (depending on how you count your classes) and then I'm in my last year and then off to uni! I'm from a little country called Georgia, which neighbours Turkey and, although I complain a lot about it, I secretly kind of love it there - it's the food, it's amazing.

I'm not diagnosed with anything, but that's only because going to a psychologist here is a month's pay-check for some people. Crazy, right? I know! Although if I go, I'm sure that one of the things I'll be diagnosed with is anxiety. It's insane. I've gotten an anxiety attack before and have to seriously control myself and steer as much as I possibly can from negative, panic-inducing thoughts otherwise I'll be a heap of tears and an accelerated heartbeat that may actually be loud enough for people around to hear. I find social situations, although something I wish I could actively take part in, terrifying. Even going to school is a bit of a struggle in the mornings. On some days, I have an upset tummy from the moment I wake  up and it doesn't pass until I'm certain nothing's going to happen.

Quite insane, really, but that's that. 

I'm an avid reader. I've read over a hundred books, and considering the fact that I only sort of became an English speaker at the age of 8 when I moved to Cyprus, which is where I currently live, I think it's quite an achievement. Unfortunately I haven't had much time to read lately with the absolute overload of coursework (those undergoing the British curriculum will know what it is. Literally coursework, lovingly known as HELL) and exams that my future depends on. Not good for someone who has anxiety, let me tell you that. Anyway, some of my favourite books include anything by John Green, - The Fault in Our Stars is my favourite - If I stay and Where She Went by Gayle Forman, Shatter me by Tahereh Mafi (WHO I HAVE CONTINUOUSLY HAD CONVERSATIONS WITH AND SHE SAID I WAS HER CONFETTI FRIEND) and some classics such as Wuthering Heights (don't judge me), Pride and Prejudice and Persuasion by Jane Austen, The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde which is a play but it's hilarious, The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee and Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. I'm in quite a few fandoms, as well. Kind of addicted to tumblr.
